I was lucky enough to be included in the private beta testing of ZBrush 4R8, playing with the cutting-edge of digital sculpting technology, alongside a group of highly talented artists. And at last, these are my final illustrations, rendered to imitate the beautiful drawings of classical scientific illustrators. I'm quite happy with how these turned out, and I hope that you all also enjoy! :)
These were so much fun to create with the new Live Boolean system. It was a really challenging exercise to completely reverse how I think about sculpting, carving out the negative spaces instead of sculpting superficially. I especially had to stretch my brain when it came to creating the super fine, overlapping sutures between the interlocking nasal bones.
Simply passing a negative Boolean cube through the entire mesh enabled me to render interesting cross-sectional, cutaway views of the sort that are often found in research papers and medical books.
